FAQ

Corona-related Inquiries

Students enrolled in the Master in Management & Innovation program are full-time students. Obtaining a visa as a full-time student is usually straightforward process for Gemany! Should you have any issues with your visa, please contact your local German Embassy.

Germany has a very good network of clinics and hospitals and is therefore very well prepared to deal with Corona. One important fact to bear in mind is that Germany has the highest number of intensive care and hospital beds among all EU countries. Public health decisions in Germany are data-driven and statistics are regularly updated and publicly available through the Robert Koch Institute (updated daily).

We want to move forward in an educated way that gives students the best possible class experience while respecting government regulations and best practices for safety. That means our preference is to hold classes in-person, but we always have a digital back-up plan.

For applicants who are having difficulty arranging tests, we’d like to point out that ETS, the company that offers the TOEFL English test and the GRE, now has a web-based solution for test-takers in regions affected by the current public health situation. Please have a look here.

Our application deadlines are currently unaffected, and most everything can be completed digitally, so please continue to apply online via TUMonline. If you completed your Bachelor’s outside the EU, please allow for additional time as you will need a preliminary documentation certificate (more info here).

We regularly offer webinars and are happy to get in touch with you on a one-to-one basis virtually. You can see our upcoming digital events here.

Yes. In terms of managing the public health challenges associated with Covid-19, Germany is considered to have done a good job. The healthcare network is well developed and the university is developing a hygiene concept so that classes can once again take place on campus in the near future. Future students should plan on coming to Germany and can feel safe doing so.

Admission and prerequisites Double Degree Track (HEC - Paris)

For our both Tracks of the Master in Management & Innovation we have different application rounds.

The Admissions Committee will only evaluate fully complete applications (including the result of your uni assist VPD, if required).

You are still required to take an English language test.

No. Only one test will be taken into consideration by the Admissions Office. It is the applicant’s responsibility to choose which test will be submitted in the application.

Yes. We consider all elements of your application, so it is important that you make each element as strong as possible. An average GMAT, GRE or TAGE MAGE test can be offset by other positive points in your application file.

No, if you have taken your test more than once, you can choose to submit your highest score.

There are no minimum required or minimum cut-off scores for applying to the Master in Management & Innovation. We accept applicants with a wide range of scores. If you have taken a test several times, the Admissions Office will consider only your highest score when reviewing your application.

GMAT, GRE and TAGE MAGE scores are valid for 5 years and must be taken before submitting your application.

No. At least your unofficial score (available on the test date) must be uploaded to your application form by the deadline. Incomplete applications cannot be submitted.

You are able to transfer your application from one round to another if you missed the deadline. For this, please log in to your applicant space, click on “Edit choice” and choose an alternative round. Please check your program’s Admission Calendar for the list of rounds available.

The application must be filled out in English.

First create an account on the HEC Paris online application platform. Then begin to fill in your application. You are able to submit an application when:

  • Your application form is 100% complete
  • You have uploaded all the required documents
  • HEC Paris and TUM have received the required online letters of reference
  • You have paid the € 110 application fee (waived for applicants who have earned their bachelor’s degree at TUM)

  2. Interview:
As soon as we have screened all applications, we will inform you via your HEC Paris individual application account whether you meet the admissibility requirements or not. We will then invite candidates to take part in a 20-25 minute admissions interview in English, either by Skype or at our campus. During the interview we encourage candidates to discuss their background, motivation, interests and goals. Applicants need to complete 2 interviews: one with TUM and one with HEC Paris. Not all candidates with a complete application will be interviewed; only those who are particularly suitable to the program..
  3. Decision:
Following the interview, we will inform you of the decision by the Admissions Jury via your HEC Paris individual application account. You should receive this information roughly six to eight weeks after the application deadline.
  4. Confirmation:
If you are accepted for the program, you must confirm your place by paying the acceptance fee by the relevant deadline for financial confirmation (this depends on your application deadline).

No, all courses of the Master in Management & Innovation are held in English. But while speaking French when applying is not mandatory, students are invited to register for a French language course (TEF certificate – all levels).

Double Degree Track:
Yes. You must take either the GMAT, GRE or TAGE MAGE and send us proof of your mark. You are exempt from this requirement, as well as the application fee, if you hold a first degree from either TUM or HEC.

Once you have submitted your application, you will no longer be able to modify it except for the “Personal Information” section. If invited to the interview, applicants may inform the jury of other updates at that time (test scores, internships etc).

Once you have made a profile within the HEC-Paris application portal, you will be prompted to upload the following:

  • Your official test scores (GMAT/GRE and TOEFL/IELTS)
  • A one-page version of your CV
  • Answers to several essay questions dealing with your motivation and ideas about leadership, management, etc.
  • The transcript of records from your bachelor’s degree

Teaching Evaluation

According to §10 of the Bavarian Higher Education Law (BayHSchG) the teaching quality is regularly evaluated through student questionnaires.

The objective of the evaluation is the continuous improvement of teaching at the TUM SoM. The teaching evaluation data is the basis for:

  • Feedback to lecturers about their courses
  • Discussions about potential improvements
  • Enhanced communication between students and lecturers

The teaching evaluation gives students the possibility to actively contribute to the improvement of teaching.

TUM SoM students can review teaching evaluation results in the office of the quality management (1553). A previous arranged appointment and a valid student identity card are mandatory. For making an appointment please contact with a short e-mail to lehrevaluation@wi.tum.de.

Each semester students are asked to evaluate the courses they visited. The survey is anonymous and is executed through a standardized questionnaire, which varies depending on the format of the course (lecture, tutorial, seminar, internship and excursion). The questionnaires are available in English. On a 5-point Likert scale students give feedback about the extent of agreement and disagreement to different areas (e.g. conception and structure, knowledge impartment, learning environment, appropriate degree of difficulty and acquisition of competency). Open text fields allow for further ideas of improvement and comments. For each course and question the following measures will be calculated:

  • Relative frequency of each answer category
  • Mean value
  • Standard deviation
  • Median

Completing the online-questionnaire requires approximately 5-10 minutes. A PDF-report comprising the results of the survey will be generated for each course. As soon as results are available the report including the comments will be sent to the respective lecturers. Lecturers with outstanding results will be suggested by the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs for the “Best Teaching Award”, which is awarded every year during the “Tag der Fakultät”.

If you have any questions or if you want to evaluate an additional course, please contact us under youngprofessionals@lll.tum.de.
