Celebrating 20 years: The TUM School of Management commemorates a very special anniversary
Happy Birthday to the TUM School of Management! The idea to set up a business administration course at the TUM was born 20 years ago: On December 1st, 1999, the Board of Directors decided to establish a “large Faculty of Economics” with 26 professorships at three locations. The TUM School of Management celebrated this milestone in the founding history of the faculty last night.

“It is impressive that the successful foundation of the TUM School of Management was initiated in less than a year,” said its dean, Prof. Dr. Gunther Friedl. “Today, 20 years later, we are proud of our TUM School of Management. With a unique profile at the interface of engineering, natural and life sciences as well as economics, it is one of the leading economic science faculties in the German-speaking world”.

The dean also explained that the TUM School of Management wanted to use its strong position to grow further, both in Heilbronn and Munich. A further goal is to position itself at the forefront of European competition.

At yesterday’s anniversary celebration, the faculty appointed Dr. Helmut Schönenberger as an Honorary Professor. Schönenberger had founded the UnternehmerTUM, the Center for Innovation and Business Creation, at TUM in 2002. “Today we honour a man who has worked with tireless energy to ensure that TUM can position itself so successfully as an ‘Entrepreneurial University’ both in the national and international context,” said Prof. Dr. Dr. Holger Patzelt, Professor of Entrepreneurship at TUM School of Management.
