Skills for family enterprises and SMEs:

Identify challenges, develop strategies and successfully drive transformation forward

Digital transformation is a development that has been discussed for a long time and has gained without exception massive concrete and practical importance due to the growing dynamics in all markets: at the latest, the current pandemic has boosted the topic of digital transformation and the need for action in every company and in every business or functional unit.

At the same time, digital technologies with a high degree of maturity and market availability offer immense opportunities to holistically increase the performance, robustness and adaptability of companies of all sizes by addressing the challenges that determine the everyday business:

  • How can efficient and secure remote working be realized and what does that mean for the leadership culture?
  • How can digital sales channels be established to expand the customer base and what does that mean for internal processes and interaction with partners?
  • What are the advantages of moving parts of IT to the Cloud and what needs to be considered?
  • How can the development of skills and the recruitment of suitable employees succeed in making the digital transformation permanent?

For these and other questions, the continuing education program at TUM Campus Heilbronn provides a holistic overview of the topic of digital transformation from all relevant perspectives, such as strategy, leadership, technology and change management. Each module covers a specific element or domain of digital transformations and imparts practical methodological knowledge.

As a comprehensive further training measure, a combination of several modules is recommended, which are offered in five topic-specific tracks. In this way, individual requirements and the holistic nature of digital transformation can be taken into account.

By attending the individual modules, participants can acquire, among others, design, planning and implementation knowledge on the topics of digital strategy, digital technologies, innovation investment, customer experience, digital process design, platform economics, and transformation and change management.

The latest research findings in the field of digital transformation and related research areas ensure that the conveyed content is up-to-date and future-oriented. Similarly, practical aspects and possible applications of the content ensure that it is embedded in the everyday business life of family enterprises and SMEs.

Directly applicable, sustainably effective and motivating continuing education is supported by group work on case studies, exchange with other executives as well as contributions from practical experts and hands-on familiarization with digital technology.

The event series is aimed both at company management, which needs a framework for corporate development in the digital age, and at the employees responsible for implementing specific phases of transformation.

Structure

Due to the overall character of digital transformations and taking into account the requirement of concrete role responsibilities in the company, a targeted combination of several modules is recommended as an effective training measure.

In the table below you will find five recommendations for an optimal combination of modules, depending on the position and area of responsibility. However, each module is self-contained and can be booked in addition to each track or separately. The order of the modules in the track does not necessarily have to be followed.

Goals of the topic-focused tracks
Based on an overall understanding of digital transformation in terms of its programme characteristics, design elements and modes of action, participants learn in this topic-specific track …

Track 1 … the relevant concepts and methods with regard to the conception, planning and management of a digital transformation, including new working and management methods, which are to be established in the company in the long term and initiate an ongoing change process.

Track 2 … how, by means of a consistently developed digital strategy, the necessary steps for operational implementation and accompanying cultural adaptation can be planned, designed and implemented, which are essential for corporate change.

Track 3 … how digitalisation affects the design of customer, business and support processes, which adjustments to structures and processes result from this and what is expected from IT in particular. Based on this, methods and approaches are taught to plan and control the necessary adjustments to IT support and IT architectures.

Track 4 … which special features result from this for finance and controlling and how those responsible for this can both appropriately map and support this company-wide adjustment process.
