Class of 2020 Begins Executive MBA Program with Module “Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Digital Transformation”
Our new Executive MBA Class of 2020 started the winter semester smoothly with more than 20 participants. As the first module, “Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Digital Transformation” provided practical insights into the development of new business concepts, both from the perspective of new startups as well as established organizations from 11 – 16 October.
In his introductory keynote, Prof. Dr. Dr. Holger Patzelt, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, encouraged participants to use the TUM’s company founding ecosystem to their advantage. The class drew inspiration from an open exchange of experiences with successful company founders as well as a guided tour of the UnternehmerTUM’s MakerSpace high-tech workshop in Garching, where new companies design and build prototypes.
Drawing on case studies from various industries, Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar discussed the question in how far business models need to change in light of the ongoing process of digital transformation.
Important guidance for drafting new business plans came from a primer in innovation management by Prof. Dr. Joachim Henkel, supplemented by practice-proven business design methods in a lecture by Dr. Katharina Willis and Thomas Münch. As an experienced startup founder and business angel, Prof. Dr. Bernd Mühlfriedel shared valuable advice on developing viable business ideas and completing pitch decks.
Social events including a welcome dinner at Augustiner tap room in Garching provided opportunities for networking and getting to know the rest of the class. Three EMBA alumni, who offered to share their personal experiences und business milestones, received a great response from our participants.
We would like to use this opportunity to wish our new EMBA class a successful academic experience, plus brilliant ideas for new business models that will count towards final module scores.
