Doctoral degree award 2020 in management goes to Petteri Leppänen

We congratulate Petteri Leppänen, who has been awarded for his outstanding doctoral thesis in management in 2020 by the “Bund der Freunde der TUM”.

Petteri’s dissertation deals with entrepreneurial firms as configurations of strategies, business models, and other design elements that determine organizational performance not individually but as a system. By embracing this causal complexity approach, he is able to study how firms combine their internal system with the external environment effectively and ineffectively. His primary contributions advance our knowledge of business model design and innovation.

“This is an incredible honor, for which I’d like to thank the Bund der Freunde der TUM and the TUM School of Management. I’d also like to thank my primary advisor, Prof. Dr. Oliver Alexy, and my colleagues at the Entrepreneurship Research Institute for the wonderful time I had at TUM.” says Petteri.

The “Bund der Freunde der TUM” (Friends of TUM) supports the Technical University of Munich in science, research and teaching – especially regarding the promotion of young academics and therefore, awards outstanding doctoral and habilitation theses each year.
