Dr. Katherine E. Fitch has been accepted into the Elisabeth-Schiemann Kolleg
Dr. Katherine E. Fitch has been accepted into the Elisabeth-Schiemann Kolleg of the Max-Planck Society. She is the first researcher at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) to be included in this select group of outstanding young female scientists. Dr. Fitch came to TUM in Fall 2016 with a PhD from Princeton University and has since been a postdoctoral fellow at the Chair of Operations Research of Alexander von Humboldt-Professor Andreas S. Schulz. Her primary field of research is algebraic graph theory. Additionally, she researches the use of mathematical methods and models for humanitarian concerns, such as kidney transplantation logistics and the optimal allocation of homelessness shelters. The Elisabeth-Schiemann Kolleg promotes activities that serve to successfully establish a career in science for its fellows. At the same time, the Kolleg offers an interdisciplinary forum for scientific exchange. The Kolleg bears the name of Elisabeth Schiemann, who was appointed scientific member of the Max-Planck Society in 1953.
