Leading the Entrepreneurial Ranking
In recent years, more and more universities in Germany open chairs for founding and entrepreneurial behavior. These chairs focus on small and middle-sized companies or a company’s succession. Beside from economical teaching, most of the universities offer an additional orientation like Social Business, Psychology of Founding or Marketing and Media. The Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg opened the first chair for “Female Entrepreneurship”.
This Boom of new chairs is influenced by incentives like EXIST, a support programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The EXIST program aims at improving the entrepreneurial environment at universities and research institutes. The development association for founding (FGF) stated that the number of chairs for founding in Germany is almost as high as in the USA with respect to the total population.
The Technical University Munich (TUM) is leading the ranking for most professorships in the fields of entrepreneurship and founding. In 2006, the TUM applied successfully for the Excellence Initiative by the German Research-Fellowship (DFG) with the future concept “TUM – The Entrepreneurial University”. In Addition, TUM School of Management offers their students a large range of supportive programs for future founders and provides students from other faculties, in particular engineering, the chance to choose entrepreneurial courses as their electives.
