Lecture series Environment: Cities of the future
This winter term the lecture series Environment deals with the interesting topic of “Cities of the future”. In altogether eleven exiting lectures, experts in urban and sustainable development will discuss problems, show innovations and provides solutions to inspire for the future.
Cities are undergoing fundamental changes – metropoles grow, smaller towns and villages are shrinking. Three of four Germans are living in urban areas which consequently are producing the majority of greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, life in the city must be rethought to meet the challenges of growing cities. The lecture series answers questions regarding urban construction, energy production and use, mobility, and local and sustainable consumption. Lecturers are for instance Maximilian Lössl of the Munich start-up agrilution, who will talk about their concept of vertical farming. Or scientists, such as Prof. Dr. Andreas Knie of the Innovation Center for Mobility and Societal Change Berlin who will discuss the future of mobility from a social scientific perspective.
Since 1985, the lecture series Environment is organized by the environmental department of the student council (AStA) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The lectures are interdisciplinary and open for students, faculty staff and the general public.
TUM School of Management attaches great value to questions of sustainability, responsibility and ethics. As stated in the mission of the school, TUM School of Management seeks to “educate responsible talents and pursue relevant research” to “contribute to solutions for the grand societal challenges” of today’s highly technologized world.
