On the way to a normalization of the Eurozone’s monetary policy – boundaries and possibilities
On June 27, 2018, 9:45 am – 11:15 am, Franz Joseph Benedikt, president of the Deutsche Bundesbank’s headquarters in Bavaria, will be holding an open guest lecture at Technical University of Munich’s Audimax. The talk “On the way to normalizing monetary policies in Europe” will be held in German and is part of Prof. Dr. Hanna Hottenrott’s lecture “Economics II – Macroeconomics”.
The resolution of the ECB Governing Council on June 14th 2018 was to terminate the bond purchase program at the end of the year. This is a first step towards a normalized monetary policy – a process which is most likely to be delayed for years. Nevertheless, the monetary policy will remain expansive for the time being. As Mario Draghi pointed out, the policy interest rates will be left unmodified on their current level beyond the summer of 2019.
