Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Vera Bitsch is first woman at the head of the German Society for Horticultural Sciences (DGG)
On the eve of the International Women’s Day, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Vera Bitsch was elected as President of the DGG at the 53rd annual conference of the DGG in Berlin. That is the first time a woman takes DGG’s helm in its almost 60-year history. Prof. Bitsch takes over from Prof. Dr. Uwe Schmidt of Humboldt University, Berlin. Together with him and the newly elected Vice President Prof. Dr. Heiko Möbus-Schoppe from Geisenheim University, she will lead the society in the coming years and help shape the future of horticultural science in Germany. The DGG was founded on January 13, 1960 by a group of professors of horticultural sciences. It has around 300 members from research, experimental, training and consulting institutions, horticultural practice companies, industrial companies as well as private individuals. Within the DGG all faculties of horticulture are represented, organized in sections.
