Prof. Dr. Frank-Martin Belz elected to supervisory board of Africa GreenTec

On Monday, December 10, 2018 Prof. Dr. Frank-Martin Belz of the TUM School of Management was elected to the board of supervisors of social start-up company Africa GreenTec. Africa GreenTec works to bring electricity to villages in sub-Saharan Africa. The company’s “Solartainer” solution is designed to provide an independent local electricity grid with solar energy for private and business uses. Beyond improving the quality of life and creating local jobs, a long-term goal of the start-up is to help Africa making the leap to implement renewable energy systems. Prof. Dr. Belz has been Chair of Corporate Sustainability at the TUM School of Management since 2003. His research and teaching are focused on sustainable entrepreneurship. The appointment to the supervisory board is closely aligned with the new research initiative “Entrepreneurship to Energize Africa” led by Prof. Dr. Belz.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) operates a comprehensive program for cooperation with African universities and businesses, including a strategic partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) from Ghana on innovation and sustainable development. One project resulting from the partnership is the electric vehicle “aCar,” designed to increase mobility in isolated African regions. A symposium on November 16 showcased the projects in which TUM faculty members are involved, covering areas such as healthcare, architecture, and renewable energy systems.
