Prof. Dr. Joachim Henkel on the most exciting innovations of Germany
Nowadays, the everyday life changes dramatically fast due to technical and digital innovations. The German television news channel “Welt” (formerly “N24”) spoke to Prof. Dr. Joachim Henkel of TUM School of Management about innovative trends for 2018.
Prof. Dr. Joachim Henkel states that in the industry sector a trend towards the Internet of Things can be observed. He mentions two Munich startups, in which he sees a large potential. One of them is the startup Konux. Konux produces sensors for the monitoring of switch health. This system helps preventing switch failures by monitoring the progressing mechanical wear of switches and detecting anomalies in time. Thus, maintenance actions can be planned in advance. The solution saves time and money.
Another innovative product is the “M3 Trolley” of the startup NavVis. It is a mobile 3D scanning device for indoor visualization and navigation, which captures 360 degree panoramic images and helps controlling storage halls remotely. The company was founded in 2013 as a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich and is located in Munich and New York. Customers include for example BMW or Bosch.
Regarding consumer goods, Prof. Dr. Joachim Henkel claims that smart home systems will become increasingly important. One promising example are voice-controlled devices like Google Home or Amazon’s Alexa.
