Prof. Dr. Krcmar about eGovernment in Germany

The study “eGovernment MONITOR” annually reveals data about the usage and acceptance of eGovernment portals in Germany and compares the results with three other countries: Austria, Switzerland and Sweden. The data is published by Initiative D21 e.V. and ipima (Instistute for Public Information Management), both German networks for digital matters. In Germany, results show a small decline in usage in comparison to other countries. The focus in this year’s investigation was on expectations of the users towards eGovernment services.

Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar, Owner of the TUM Chair of Information Management and Scientific Director of ipima, explains that eGovernment should be more established as a positive brand and emphasizes the importance of continuity. The steady change of terms is rather bad than beneficial. Moreover, he recommends that persons responsible at federal and state level should cooperate with actors of eGovernment to reduce uncertainty and scepticism of potential users.

More on this topic can be read in the German article of Behörden-Spiegel. The study “eGovernmemt MONITOR” 2015 is available for download here.
