Prof. Welpe in the media
Prof. Dr. Isabell Welpe, TUM Chair of Strategy and Organization, has been mentioned in the media in the past week.
Firstly, Welpe and Dipl.-Psych. Tanja Schwarzmüller (also Chair of Strategy and Organization) were interviewed about their current project which deals with the recruitment and selection of men and women as executive managers by the knowledge portal Springer for Professionals.
In contrast to the selection of employees on lower hierarchy levels, the recruiting of mangers is rather unstructured, Schwarzmüller told Springer. In this context, connections play an important role.
Welpe emphasized another problem of the selection of personnel, namely, homosocial reproduction. As a result, managers choose only these candidates who are similar in terms of experience and beliefs to the current management board.
More about the stereotypical selection of managers can be read in the interview on Springer online or in the German book “Auswahl von Männern und Frauen als Führungskräfte” which the scholars have published together.
Another management book of Prof. Welpe was recognized this week.
The German book “Das demokratische Unternehmen” (The democratic organization) by managers Thomas Sattelberger, Andreas Boes and Prof. Welpe, was awarded as best management book of the year in Germany. In the book, the authors examined common management theories and especially the common management practice.
At the Frankfurt book fair, they had the pleasure to receive the award.
More about the book and the award can be read here.
