Program Kick-off for Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation Class of 2020 on 25 April

We are delighted to report the successful kick-off of what is already our eleventh year of the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation program. On 24 April, 2018 we welcomed our Class of 2020 with an official kick-off event in Munich, opened by a keynote presentation by Academic Director Prof. Dr. Hana Milanov on the “Learning Philosophy” of our Executive Education Program.

Supported by TUM’s team building experts, participants could get better acquainted with their peers and their own leadership skills, which will prove useful during team projects commencing in May 2018. As a Cohort Building Activity, the class visited the MakerSpace workshop in Garching where they built a Rube Goldberg Machine featuring interesting chain reactions triggered by rolling marbles.

Participants were also welcomed by Dr. Helmut Schönenberger, Director of UnternehmerTUM GmbH, who introduced the comprehensive offering of UnternehmerTUM and its programs. On the second day, the Class of 2020 launched into the curriculum of their Executive MBA program with the first module “Strategy and Organization”. During the module, Prof. Dr. Thomas Hutzschenreuther covered the area of “Strategy” while Prof. Dr. Oliver Alexy outlined “Organization”, supported by guest speakers from corporations and start-ups.

Meanwhile, our Class of 2019 of the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation completed its sixth on-site module from 4 – 5 April, 2018. Pursuing the area of “Innovation Management”, the class focused on the targeted development of innovation from a leadership perspective. Key aspects include: How can intellectual property (IP) serve to support innovative processes and what is the role of sustainability in exploring new business models?

The module was headed by Prof. Dr. Joachim Henkel of the Dr. Theo Schöller Chair in Technology and Innovation Management, supported by guest speakers including Dominik Sievert, co-founder and CTO at inveox, and Andreas Kunze, CEO of Konux, who attended via Skype conferencing.

The following weekend was dedicated to work on the participants’ individual projects with professional support: An entire workshop day on business modelling with the project advisors offered participants a chance to fine-tune business models and obtain important feedback. During a project day on business planning, Prof. Dr. Bernd Mühlfriedel provided important tools for strategic business development and the creation of impactful business presentations.

After completing the module, participants will now focus on putting the final touches on their Master’s Theses. We wish the entire Class of 2019 all the best in this crucial period.
