Project between Bavaria and Austria will be sponsored by INTERREG and the state of Bavaria

Go-ahead for a TUM School of Management cooperation project: Bavarian Minister of Agriculture Helmut Brunner announced in Munich that a cross-border project between Bavaria and Austria will be sponsored by the EU funding program INTERREG and the state of Bavaria.

A contribution of €920,000 from INTERREG will support a joint project on biotope and species protection in protective forests and mountain forests. Under the leadership of Technical University of Munich (Prof. Dr. Michael Suda, Chair of Forest and Environmental Policies, TUM School of Management), the Bavarian State Institute of Forestry, the Bavarian Academy for Nature Protection and Rural Conservation and the Austrian states of Tyrol and Salzburg will work together to develop planning foundations for forest management in mountain areas. The project is intended to coordinate and harmonize the management of protective forests and natural protection across borders. In Bavaria the Natura 2000 area Karwendel mit Isar (the Karwendel Alpine Park south of Garmisch-Partenkirchen) will benefit from these endeavors. Project work in Bavaria will additionally be supported with state funds amounting to €100,000.

The European Union’s INTERREG structural development program supports cross-border projects. Funds of €6.6 billion will be made available across the EU through 2020, and of that some €197 million will be spent on projects in the border regions between Bavaria and Austria, the Czech Republic, and Lake Constance.
