Successful launch of TUM School of Management’s first International Summer School
In July 2018, TUM School of Management introduced its first International Summer School. This year’s Summer School was entitled “Sustainable Entrepreneurship – Theory and Practice” and brought together international students with an interest in sustainability and entrepreneurship for the discovery of the Munich entrepreneurial scene, featuring meetings with founders, introductions to sustainable companies, an academic program, and the chance to experience innovative products first-hand. Moreover, the international guests were invited to experience the Bavarian way of life during a vast leisure program.
Following the motto “Inform – Inspire – Interact” the 2018 Summer School aimed at providing the participants with the theoretical and practical input needed to tackle grand societal challenges by deepening the understanding of sustainable entrepreneurship with its combination of economic, social and ecological goals. The objective “Inform” stands for the combination of cutting-edge research at a triple crown accredited business school and the rich experience of sustainable entrepreneurs who showed the participants how to found a new sustainable business. The second objective “Inspire” represents the work with dedicated academics and a diverse group of sustainable entrepreneurs from different industries, including fashion, food and energy. The aim “Interact” refers to the collaboration between the participants, which meant getting to know people from all over the world and working creatively together in order to develop an own business concept.
The aceademic program included workshops on sustainable entrepreneurship examples from different sectors and on business model development, pitches and group work, and the introduction to UnternehmerTUM and MakerSpace. The cultural program featured a welcome event in a beer garden, hiking in the Alps, a day trip to lake Chiemsee, a barbecue by the Isar river, an bike tour of local hotspots and a great farewell party.
TUM School of Management would like to thank all organizers, lecturers, professors and international participants for their active involvement and for making this first Summer School so successful.
