Successful Rollout: Elective Classes Receive Positive Response

Our latest evolution of the Executive MBA curriculum consists of four new elective modules complementing our regular course offering here at TUM this semester.

The successful rollout of the new offering took place on 26 – 30 May with the elective module “Financial & Risk Management“. In front of enthusiastic participants, our dean, Prof. Dr. Gunther Friedl, presented the latest research insights together with Prof. Dr. Christoph Kaserer and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Ernstberger.

Additional highlights of the well-attended module included a presentation by EMBA-alumnus Florian Spindler, responsible for cyber security at KPMG Germany, on “Risk Management & Cyber Security”. In order to emphasize the role of cyber security in today’s digital business environment, Spindler provided a live hacking demonstration of a Windows account in front of the audience.

The next elective module provided EMBA participants with a chance to explore the subject of “Leadership & Strategic Management” from 9 – 13 June. This second elective module was presented by Prof. Dr. Claudia Peus, Vice Dean Executive Education, Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar, TUM chair of information systems, and Prof. Dr. Peter Fischer of the University of Regensburg’s chair for social, organizational, occupational and economic psychology.

Complementing the latest results from research, the module featured a number of prominent guest lecturers from business practice: Jens Hauke Wellhöner, Head of HR at Wacker Neuson, outlined the future challenges of human resources that are already demanding a response from a growing number of enterprises. Sabrina Lehner of KUKA AG and Angela Körner of next47 provided insights into the field of strategic human resource management. And what are the latest trends at the intersection of staff development and business leadership? Current developments were presented by Dr. Rüdiger Fox, founder of the Gross Corporate Happiness Institute and Peter Paschek, CEO of Peter Paschek Enterprise Consulting in an engaging lecture.

As a special treat, the group used an opportunity to visit the University of Television and Film (HFF) in Munich, the oldest institute of higher education of its kind in Germany. During an exclusive lecture, participants learned how to implement film and videos as powerful ways to communicate key messages in corporate communications.

The response to our elective modules has been overwhelmingly positive so far, and we look forward to our upcoming courses: From 14 – 18 July, our most popular elective to date will cover “Business Development & Innovation Management” with lectures by Prof. Dr. Hanna Hottenrott, Prof. Dr. Hana Milanov and Prof. Dr. Nicola Breugst on the business design method. Rounding out the course offering, participants will visit technology-oriented businesses in the area to spot the latest tech trends impacting business management. Next up, the elective module ”Operations & Supply Chain Management” will provide participants with a chance to expand their horizons from 15 – 19 September.

We are delighted to present these new options to our participants and hope they will enjoy exploring these supplemental subjects.
