Symposium of the BMBF-funded “FührMINT” project at the TU Munich held successfully
The FührMINT project investigates the success factors in careers in academic STEM fields. In several experiments and interview studies the project team analyzes how universities can attract, select, and promote high potential scientists for academic leadership positions. The project was initiated by the Chair of Research and Science Management which is part of TUM School of Management.
On March 27, 2019, the FührMINT team hosted a symposium at TUM on the topic “Recruitment and advancement of women in MINT leadership positions in science” for decision-makers and MINT scientists. A varied agenda with presentations of current research results, keynotes by leading scientists and transfer workshops were offered.
The symposium’s objective was to make the most important results of the project, and the results of other researchers, accessible to practitioners. Transfer workshops on the topics of “Leadership in Academia” and “Gender and Recruitment in Academia” enabled an exchange between all participants as well as an intensive discussion and analysis of the most important topics.
Special thanks go to the head of the ministerial department (Ministerialrätin) Hadulla-Kuhlmann for her many years of support, the guest speakers Prof. Dr. Rolf van Dick, Prof. Dr. Simone Kauffeld and Prof. Dr. Elisa Resconi as well as Dr. Lisa Horvath for the competent and entertaining transfer workshop and, last but not least, the committed participants.
