Transformation towards sustainability – but how?
Leading a sustainable life and doing business in a sustainable way is becoming increasingly important for more and more people. According to a study from July 2020*, almost 80 percent of all consumers are now rethinking their purchasing behavior and attaching greater importance to social responsibility, inclusivity and, of course, environmental friendliness. And more and more companies are committing themselves to sustainable goals. However, how can the turnaround towards sustainable corporate management succeed, how can processes and entire corporate divisions become sustainable?
In order to answer this question, the Technical University of Munich will be offering support for leaders and professionals from all sectors at the TUM Institute for LifeLong Learning from February 2022. Supported by the companies of the “TUM Sustainable Dialogue”, the German-speaking part-time certificate program “Sustainable Management & Technology – Transformation towards Sustainability” will start for the first time at the institute.
Other figures also show that this transformation is becoming increasingly relevant: 65 percent of Germans consider environmental and climate protection to be a very important issue, according to the Federal Environment Agency’s study on environmental awareness in Germany in 2021. Climate protection in particular remains just as important for 70 percent during the pandemic, and has even become more important for 16 percent.
Learning to assess technologies and their impact on sustainability
The Sustainable Management & Technology program introduces current topics on sustainable management and innovative biotechnologies. Participants acquire the skills to support the transformation of their organizations towards sustainable entities. They learn to assess which trends and technologies have the potential to settle in on the market in the future. This enables them to strengthen the economic, social and ecological sustainability of their company and to identify and implement new business areas and technologies in good time.
The program was developed in cooperation with experts from the TUM Campus in Straubing, with its focus on biotechnology and sustainability. They bring the latest research findings and challenges for companies and organizations into the program.
