The certificate program explores in depth practically relevant concepts of IT security and their formal foundation. Starting from the innocent looking question how “security” of IT systems can be defined, and afterwards measured, we discuss security modeling, threat and risk assessment as well as specifying security objectives that counteract those threats and risks. We will look into cryptographic methods, security protocol design and authentication mechanisms, which provide the basic toolbox needed to achieve security objectives. Tailoring the program to the participants needs, we will discuss topics like system hardening, random number generation, or access control mechanisms.

Why this program?

With more and more complex IT systems, fast-pacing developments and increasing cyber risks, IT security becomes a topic crucial to competition and personal safety. Two renowned institutions therefore developed a unique training program on IT security: The Technical University of Munich is one of Europe’s top universities with a strong expertise in technological topics. Fraunhofer AISEC supports companies from all industries and service sectors in securing their systems, infrastructures, products and offerings.

Participants will interact with experts from different industries and will benefit of the extensive practical and research experience of both institutions. The theoretical sessions will be complimented by hands-on sessions taking place at Fraunhofer AISEC (hardware provided). In our lab, you can become a hacker yourself and develop attacks on software in various exercises. You have the possibility to work independently, but also to discuss approaches with one of the lecturers at any time. Especially our strong mentoring helps to optimize your individual learning strategy in this challenging area.

Over a period of 4 months, professionals and experts will take part in the training next to their jobs by investing 90 minutes in the evening per week (exclusive preparation time). The newly learnt knowledge can be applied right away into the jobs. Questions that arise out of the application can be brought back to the classroom and can be discussed there with the professor and experts from other companies. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet the other participants personally one day at the TUM AISEC Lab where they will be able to learn together in an innovative environment.
