TUM.wood – Building with Wood

The certificate program “TUM.wood – Building with Wood” brings you the latest ecological, economic, technical and architectural expertise in modern wood construction.

TUM experts provide participants with a practical understanding of the topic, enabling them to understand the requirements of planning and building with wood and how to implement them professionally. The course covers the topics of architecture, construction and surrounding regulations as well as examining wood construction-specific planning processes, life cycle assessment and recycling management.

The TUM.wood continuing education program was launched by the network of the same name. TUM.wood is a cooperation of eleven professorships of the Technical University of Munich. The unifying vision is to make greater use of the material’s potential, to strengthen its contribution to the responsible use of available resources, and to point the way to a new age of wood. The technical, architectural, ecological and economic possibilities of one of the world’s most important renewable raw materials will be examined along its entire value chain. From its origins in the forest to timber harvesting and processing, from its use in construction to recycling strategies.

Why this program?

TUM.wood is a globally unique research network with the common goal of making greater use of the potential of wood as a raw material, strengthening its contribution to the responsible use of available resources, and pointing the way to a new age of wood. TUM.wood combines competencies from research, the forestry and timber industry, architecture and building practice. The certificate program thus combines the latest findings from science and practice in a unique way and qualifies participants for planning and building with wood. The didactic structure of the program enables participants to immediately apply what they have learned to their individual working environment according to their individual level of knowledge and professional background.

The Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry has promised start-up funding for the certificate program: As part of the Bavarian Timber Construction Initiative, we will receive financial support for the development and piloting of the continuing education program. We would like to pass this on to the program participants: If you register by August 31, 2021, you will receive a 200 EUR discount (an additional 10% discount for members of our partner associations and for TUM alumni still applies).
